BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Purdue went head-to-head with No. 5 Indiana in front of one of the largest women's basketball crowds in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall history. Despite the environment and trailing by as much as 17 in the second half, the Boilermakers (13-10, 4-8 B1G) battle back to within five before the Hoosiers (16-3, 8-1 B1G) came away with a 64-57 win.
Jeanae Terry scored a season-high 14 points to lead Purdue, while Brooke Moore chipped in 13 points off the bench. Abbey Ellis reached double figures as well with 11 points. On the defensive end, the Boilermakers recorded a season-high nine blocks, a career-best three coming from freshman Jayla Smith. Smith also pulled down a career-high seven rebounds to match Terry for the team best.
Nicole Cardano-Hillary's 19 points and Grace Berger's 17 points helped the Hoosiers to victory. Contributing off the bench, Chloe Moore-McNeail scored 11 points.
Purdue found success in the paint early, racing out to an 8-2 lead. The Hoosiers countered with a 12-2 run to take their first lead of the ballgame. Terry scored eight of the Boilermakers' 14 points in the first quarter, but it was the home team that held a 17-14 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
Indiana broke a 20-20 tie in the second with six straight points. Before the horn sounded for the half, the Boilermakers found themselves down double digits, 34-24. Terry had half of Purdue's points with a dozen. The Hoosiers built their lead thanks to eight offensive boards that led to a 10-0 advantage in second chance points. Purdue made sure they wouldn't get any second chance points in the second half.
The deficit grew to 17 until Smith and Moore nailed back-to-back threes. Taking the momentum into the fourth quarter, Ellis found Ava Learn to bring the game back to single digits and force an Indiana timeout. After a bucket by the Hoosiers, Moore drilled another triple to make it an eight-point contest. Another three by the senior got it down to five, 58-53. However, the Boilermakers could not get any closer as time ran out on their rally.
