Baton Rouge, La. – Falling in the doubleheader at Tiger Park, Purdue softball (7-9) was unable to overcome a 4-run fourth inning for Drake, falling 2-4 to the Bulldogs before being shut out by No. 24 LSU, 0-17.
Mo Wimpee produced her first RBI of the season in the sixth inning as the Boilermakers looked for a late-inning push against Drake. Wimpee, who entered as DP and had has only entered the batter's box four times this season, connected on her first at-bat of the game for second baseman Jade Moy to score.
Alex Echazarreta recorded her first loss of the season, moving to 3-1 after throwing 91 pitches, including 61 strikes. Over the senior's 3.2 innings pitched, Echazarreta secured six strikeouts and allowed no walks. Offensively, Echazarreta was the first to put the Boilermakers on the board, earning a run in the fourth, thanks to freshman Olivia McFadden's single to center field.
At No. 24 LSU, the Boilermakers held the Tigers to one run in the first two innings before a five-run third inning, followed by a seven-run fourth inning solidified the game. The loss was credited to Brenna Smith, who tossed the first 2.2 innings and saw the first six LSU runs.
Purdue will be back next weekend in Boca Raton, Florida, for the FAU Parent's Weekend Tournament. Opponents will include at Florida Atlantic, SIUE and Illinois State during the Friday, March 4-Sunday, March 6 series.
