Baton Rouge, La. – Purdue softball moved to 7-7 on the season following a pair of losses on the second day of the Gold & Black Challenge. The Boilermakers suffered a 1-7 loss vs. Stephen F. Austin (4-10) before being shut out by No. 24 LSU, 0-8.
On the day, senior shortstop Rachel Becker led the day with Purdue's lone run and three hits, including two at LSU. Meanwhile, Rylee Platusic recorded two hits on three at-bats vs. SFA.
Purdue held LSU to a single run in each of the first three innings with the first two Tiger runs coming on Boilermaker errors.
Alexa Pinarski (0-3) is credited with the loss at No. 24 LSU, after pitching 3.1 innings which saw six runs on six hits with one strikeout.
Meanwhile, vs. Stephen F. Austin, Becker scored Purdue's run in the top of the sixth. The RBI was credited to right fielder Rylee Platusic, who singled to center field, giving Becker the time to score from second.
Senior right-handed pitcher Brenna Smith came in relief for Mo Wimpee (1-1) for the final 4.2 innings of play. Upon entering, Smith inherited a runner on second and sent the first batter packing with a backwards K.
