BATON ROUGE, La. – The Purdue softball team (7-5) split the first day of LSU's Purple & Gold Challenge, shutting out Drake (3-3), 3-0 after falling 0-2 to Stephen F. Austin (3-9).

In her first game back since opening weekend, Alex Echazarreta improved to a perfect 3-0 record with an .082 ERA on the day. The senior righty set a career-high nine strikeouts in the complete game victory, besting her previous record of six, which was earned vs. Georgetown (2/13/22), the last time she saw action in the circle.

The late push by the Boilermakers saw three runs on four hits in the sixth inning to secure the victory. Jade Moy produced the game-winning run, while pinch runner Kyndall Bailey and Alex Echazarreta each followed with one of their own.

Moy led the effort with two hits, while freshman Ryen Ross saw her first and second career starts at first base to tally 10 putouts.

The victory comes following a 0-2 loss to Stephen F. Austin, where the Boilermakers were stumped by 12 strikeouts in the no-hitter.
Purdue racked up five runners left on-base against SFA, with senior shortstop Rachel Becker securing a team-leading two walks on three at-bats.

Relief pitcher Alexa Pinarski closed the game in the circle, allowing no runs and forcing four strikeouts over 3.0 innings of work. Meanwhile, the loss was credited to Brenna Smith (1-2), after the winning run came on a homer in the first inning, with the insurance run coming in the fifth.

The Boilermakers will be back tomorrow, for another doubleheader at Tiger Park. First, Purdue will look to even the score vs. Stephen F. Austin at 11 a.m. ET before taking on host No. 24 LSU at 4 p.m. ET, which will be streamed on the SEC Network +.
