WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Big Ten Championships at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center opened with Purdue men's swimming & diving registering a pair of all-time top-five times in team history in the relays contested Wednesday.

The Boilermakers' posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time (B Cut) of 1:24.83 in the 200 medley relay, a mark that doubled as the fourth fastest in team history. Michael Juengel, Coleman Modglin, Brady Samuels and Nikola Aćin teamed up for Purdue's quartet. Aćin raced as the anchor in the event at Big Tens for the fourth straight season and Juengel handled the leadoff backstroke leg for the third straight year.

The 800 freestyle relay team of Nick Sherman, Keelan Hart, Liam Walker and Ethan Shaw registered a time of 6:25.39 to move up to third place in program history. Sherman's leadoff leg split of 1:34.65 is also a team season best in the 200 free, a time that bested Purdue's team record going into the 2021 Big Ten Championships before Sherman eclipsed it a year ago.

Aćin closed the 200 medley relay with a 50 free split of 18.93. Any sub-19 second time is a strong swim, but it was also a fast field that featured four A Cuts and a host of 18-second 50 free splits.

Event winners Ohio State (1:22.13) and Indiana (6:11.96) both set pool records at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center, eclipsing times that had stood since the 2016 Big Ten Championships. Wednesday marked the first time Ohio State had ever won the 200 medley relay at Big Tens.

Action continues Thursday with swimming prelims at 10 a.m. ET, diving prelims at noon and the finals session at 5 p.m.
