ATHENS, Ga. – The Purdue softball team (6-3) split the second day at the Red & Black Showcase taking down Delaware, 3-2 after falling to No. 13 Georgia 13-1 (5 IN).

Seniors pitcher Brenna Smith and right fielder Rylee Platusic led the Boilermakers to victory in Game 2 vs. Delaware. Smith (1-0) recorded her first complete game of her career where she allowed no hits until the fourth inning with two outs. Meanwhile, Platusic had a hand in two of the three Boilermaker runs, both of which came in the sixth inning, thanks to a triple up center field.

The game winner was recorded by Platusic, thanks to freshman Ryen Ross's RBI.

Purdue's fielding efforts came in clutch during the sixth inning, when the Blue Hens had the game-tying runners on-base when Smith caught a hard line drive and threw to first for the double play, silencing Delaware's momentum.

Then, in the bottom of the seventh, Delaware's last ditch effort included a run, but the Boilermaker defense held steady, securing the game with two runners left on base.

Tomorrow, the Boilermakers will close out the weekend for one more showdown at No. 13 Georgia, which is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET on SEC Network+.
