MADISON, Wis. – Freshmen Sophie McAfee and Hannah Hill duplicated their feats from the day prior and Hill was also among the trio of Boilermakers to move up the program's all-time top 10 lists, headlining Friday's action at the Big Ten Championships for Purdue women's swimming & diving.
Maggie Love won the C final of the 100 breaststroke while climbing into eighth place in team history with an NCAA provisional qualifying time (B Cut) of 1:01.16. Abby Harter scored in the C final of the 100 backstroke and climbed to sixth place in program history with a team season-best time of 54.12.
McAfee completed a sweep of the springboard consolation finals, posting a 3-meter list score of 338.35 to move into 14th place in team history. She led the way as all four Boilermakers that competed in the dive Friday scored in the consolation final. Maycey Vieta, Jenna Sonnenberg and Maggie Merriman combined for 61 points in the event. McAfee improved on her prelim score by 27 points in the consolation final.
Hill eclipsed the Purdue freshman record in the 50 freestyle for the second day in a row and third time this season. She led off the 200 free relay with a split of 22.76, which was also good for sixth place in team history. As the first freshman to break 23 seconds in the 50 free, she has now dropped 0.3 tenths of a second off the program's freshman benchmark dating back to November.
Hill's classmates Teagen Moon (22.82) and Love (22.79) also had sub-23 seconds splits on the relay Friday, but only the leadoff leg is eligible to double as an individual time or record. They joined forces with junior Claire Abbasse in the event. All three freshmen have been part of multiple relays this week at the championships.
Masy Folcik (100 breast), Lindsay Turner (100 fly) and Madeline Greaves (400 IM) also scored in individual events Friday. Folcik was a B finalist and registered a B Cut time of 1:01.47. Turner became the first swimmer in the junior class to score individually at Big Tens three years in a row. Greaves joined Love as the first freshmen swimmers to score in an individual event this week.
Kat Mueller impressed Friday with a pair of career-best times that elevated the junior up Purdue's all-time lists. She moved into 12th place in team history in the 100 back (54.93) and 15th place in the program record book in the 100 fly (54.70).
Elissa Haake represented the Boilermakers among the Big Ten Sportsmanship honorees announced before Friday's finals session.
