<br /><br />The Boilermaker softball team (5-2) suffered its first two losses of the season in the opening day of the Red & Black Showcase after falling 6-5 (8 IN) to Delaware and 5-2 vs. Boston University.

ATHENS, Ga. – The Boilermaker softball team (5-2) suffered its first two losses of the season in the opening day of the Red & Black Showcase after falling 6-5 (8 IN) to Delaware and 5-2 vs. Boston University.

In total, the Boilermakers left 21 runners on base between the two games. Meanwhile, Rachel Becker and Kaeley Hallada scored a run in each game to open the Showcase.

Game 1: Purdue 5, Delaware 6 (8 IN)
In the first of two games, the Purdue softball team (5-1) suffered its first loss of the season with a 6-5 (8 inning) result vs. Delaware (4-1).

Despite responding to each Blue Hen run, the Boilermakers were unable to answer in the final inning and ended the game with the game-tying runner out at home. In total, 12 Boilermakers were left stranded compared to the Blue Hen's one.

Purdue out-hit Delaware 13-4, three of which were home runs courtesy of Rachel Becker, Kaitlyn Brannstrom and Kaeley Hallada.

Relief pitcher Alexa Pinarski (0-1) allowed just one hit after capping the game at five innings.

Game 2: Purdue 2, Boston 5
The Boilermakers remained hitless until the bottom of the fifth, when Rylee Platusic recorded the team's first. Purdue went on to score two in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to an RBI single by Kaeley Hallada and Rylee Platusic, scoring Rachel Becker and Olivia McFadden, respectively.

Seeing time in the circle for the first time this season was righty Brenna Smith. The senior tallied 4.2 innings in relief for Kendall Klochack. Smith faced 19 batters, allowing just five hits, two runs and no walks to go alongside a strikeout (3.00 ERA). Meanwhile, Mo Wimpee closed the game for the final inning.

Purdue will be back tomorrow for another pair of matches at Jack Turner Stadium. First, Purdue will take on No. 13 Georgia at 3:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network+, before facing off against Delaware in a 6 p.m. ET rematch.
