RIO GRANDE, P.R. – The No. 21-ranked Purdue men's golf team had another decent round, but fell to fourth after 36 holes at the elite Puerto Rico Golf Club held at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
The Boilermakers fired a second-round score of 11-under par 277 to finish the opening 36 holes in 27-under par 549 (272-277), good for fourth place. No. 12 Georgia (533) leads No. 1 Oklahoma (537) by four shots and No. 8 Tennessee (544) entering tomorrow's final round. Purdue is in fourth, followed closely by Michigan State (550), College of Charleston (551) and South Carolina (552).
The tournament features eight of the top-50 teams in the country.
All five Purdue players currently sit under par through 36 holes, led by Herman Sekne at 9-under par 135 (64-71). Sekne started slow in his second round after bogeying three of his first four holes, but responded with four birdies over his final 14 holes for his eighth consecutive round of even-par or better. He is in an eighth-place tie, five shots off the lead.
Cole Bradley turned in his second straight round of 4-under par 68, to sit in 11th place at 8-under par 136 (68-68). Bradley recorded five birdies and one bogey during his second round.
Joe Weiler moved into the top 20 after a second-round 68 and a 36-hole total of 6-under par 138 (70-68). Weiler has now been even or under par in 10 of his 14 rounds this year.
Nick Dentino recorded his second consecutive round of 2-under par 70, now tied for 32nd at 4-under par 140 (70-70).
Andrew Farraye fired a 1-under par 71 and sits in a tie for 58th at 1-under par 143 (72-71).
Playing as an individual, Luke Prall is tied for 19th at 6-under par 138 (67-71), while Nic Hofman is tied for 68th at 2-over par 146 (73-73).
The final round on Tuesday will start at 7:30 a.m. ET.
