CONWAY, S.C. – The Purdue softball team (5-0) closed out the first weekend of play undefeated after dispatching Georgetown (1-4), 6-4. The Boilermakers out-hit the Hoyas 10-9 and went errorless in the win.

Alex Echazarreta improved to 2-0 in the circle and pitched five innings, including six strikeouts, a career-best and most since five at UNC Greensboro on February 22, 2020. In total, the senior doubled her season strikeout total, after entering the day with six.

Fittingly, the game-winner came at the hands of left fielder Kiersen George on a home run to center field with two outs in the top of the fifth. The sophomore recorded three RBI on the hit, after Rylee Platusic and Ryen Ross reached on a fielder's choice and Hoya error, respectively.

On the next batter up, Kiara Dillon singled before Jade Moy tripled down the left field line, allowing Dillon to score for an insurance run.
In total, Purdue scored four runs on four hits and left two on-base in the game-deciding fifth inning.

Mo Wimpee earned her second save the season after pitching two innings and threw a punch-out for the final out of the game.
With George's home run, Purdue has hit a home run in all five games to start the season. Defensively, the Boilermakers recorded their second errorless game and have not committed more than one error in a game yet.

Dillon led the offensive effort with two runs. Meanwhile, Rachel Becker secured one run, two hits and an RBI.

Purdue will be back in action next weekend in Athens, where No. 12 Georgia will host the Red and Black Showcase. The Boilermakers will play five games from Friday, February 18 through Sunday, February 20 and will face opponents Delaware, Boston University and Georgia.
