<br /><br />RIO GRANDE, P.R. – Led by Herman Sekne's 8-under par 64, the Purdue men's golf team got off to a strong start in Round 1 of the Puerto Rico Classic held at the Grand Reserve Golf Club, ending the day in third place shooting 16-under par (272), tying the fourth-lowest, 18-hole team score in program history.

RIO GRANDE, P.R. – Led by Herman Sekne's 8-under par 64, the Purdue men's golf team got off to a strong start in Round 1 of the Puerto Rico Classic held at the Grand Reserve Golf Club, ending the day in third place shooting 16-under par (272), tying the fourth-lowest, 18-hole team score in program history.
 
The Boilermakers trail just No. 12 Georgia by seven shots and No. 1 Oklahoma by four shots heading into the second round tomorrow. The Boilermakers lead nationally-ranked squads South Carolina, East Tennessee State and Tennessee by four shots, all of which are in fourth place at 12-under par 276.
 
Purdue's 272 was its lowest cumulative round since the 2015-16 season and the fourth-best round in school history.
 
The story of the day was the Oslo, Norway, native Herman Sekne's 64. He was 1-over par through four holes, but played the remaining 14 holes in 9-under par, good for a career-best 64 and two shots off the individual lead held by Oklahoma's Patrick Welch (10-under par 62).
 
His round tied third-lowest score in program history and was the best round by a Boilermaker since Jarle Volden's 64 during the 2018-19 season. Sekne now has seven straight rounds of even-par or better, tied for the second-longest streak in school history.
 
Cole Bradley had a strong round for the Boilermakers, shooting a 4-under par, to sit in a tie for 10th. The 68 marked his third round in the 60s this season.
 
Joe Weiler and Nick Dentino are tied for 34th at 2-under 70 and Andrew Farraye is tied for 60th at even-par 72.
 
Playing as individuals, Luke Prall shot a career-best 67 to sit in a tie for seventh, while Nic Hofman shot a 1-over par 73, good for a 68th-place tie.
 
As one of golf's premier events, eight of the thirteen teams in the Puerto Rico Classic are ranked in the top-50 nationally.
