<br /><br />The Purdue softball team improved to 3-0 on the season after scoring six runs between the fifth and sixth innings to take East Carolina (1-3), 9-6.

CONWAY, S.C.—The Purdue softball team improved to 3-0 on the season after scoring six runs between the fifth and sixth innings to take East Carolina (1-3), 9-6. The underclassmen led the Boilermaker victory, firing off three home runs and accounting for eight of the team's runs, along with seven RBI.

Leading the day was Kiara Dillon, who secured three runs. Meanwhile, defensively the sophomore center fielder recorded three putouts, including the final out at the top of the seventh on a diving catch.

A total of four Boilermaker pitchers saw time in the circle, including freshman Kendall Klochack, who came in relief to pitch 2.2 innings and totaled two strikeouts. Lefty Gabby Sprang (1-0) earned the win after entering the game in the fifth inning, while junior Mo Wimpee closed out the game for the save after shutting out the Pirates in the final two innings.

Home runs were notched by sophomore Kaitlyn Brannstrom in the bottom of the second to even the score, 1-1. Then, in her first collegiate start, catcher Ryen Ross homered to center field in the fourth, before third baseman Olivia McFadden rounded out the Boilermakers scoring with a home run for two RBI.

McFadden closed the first of two games for the day with a team-leading four RBI while averaging a .364 at the plate.

The Boilermakers have one game remaining for the day, set to face host Coastal Carolina at 5:30 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
