Purdue Wins Doubleheader Home Opener

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –  The Purdue men's tennis team had its home opener this weekend consisting of a double header against the Chicago State Cougars and the IUPUI Jaguars.
 
PURDUE vs. CHICAGO STATE
Athell Bennett and Milledge Cossu led the start of the doubles match followed by Sebastian Welch and Andre Suzanne to take the doubles point at No. 2 and 3. 
 
Starting off in singles, Rohan Sachdev quickly overtook Chicago State's Jesus Perez Plaza at No. 4. Athell Bennett soon after defeated Jakov Suler, 6-1, 6-3 to improve the Boilermaker's score to 3-0 over the Cougars. 
 
Purdue then secured victories at No. 5, 6, 3 and 2 to clinch the match 7-0. 
 
Piotr Galus, Milledge Cossu, and Sebastian Welch locked in their first singles wins of the season against Chicago State. This was the Boilermakers first sweep of the season.
 
The Boilers improved their record to 1-4 with the victory over the Cougars. 
 
PURDUE vs. IUPUI
Athell Bennett and Tomasz Dudek made their debut as a doubles pair and sailed to a 6-4 victory over the Jaguar's Sean Bailey and Kamil Kozerski. No. 1 Piotr Galus and Michael Wozniak fought to secure the doubles point for the Boilermakers.
 
Purdue started off strong during the singles matches. No. 4 Tomasz Dudek had an aggressive 4-0 start during the first match which allowed him to solidify his first singles match victory of the season over the Jaguar's Kamil Kozerski.
 
The Boilermakers continued their run while Rohan Sachdev and Athell Bennett quickly added two more singles points to the tally. 
 
Solidifying two more points from No. 4 Tomasz Dudek and No. 2 Sebastian Welch over their opponents rose the Boilers to 5-0.
 
In a head to head battle, Julen Morgan put up a great fight against the Jaguar's Nate Day 
 
Purdue finalized the match with a 6-1 win over IUPUI.
