NORMAN, Okla. – The Purdue men's tennis team's bid for an upset win over No. 24 Oklahoma came up short Monday afternoon, as the Boilermakers fell 6-1 on the road.
The Boilermakers played a tight doubles session in the opening stages but saw the Sooners pick up the opening point. Michal Wozniak and Sebastian Welch were 4-4 Welsh Hotard and Alex Martinez at the top of the lineup, but the Sooners pulled out a 6-4 win. Likewise, Andre Suzanne and Rohan Sachdev were even at 3-3 with Mason Beiler and Nathan Han before dropping the No. 3 match 6-3.
Gabriele Brancatelli and Tomasz Dudek were down just 4-3 to Mark Madlik and Baptiste Anselmo at No. 2 when play was halted.
In singles, the Sooners claimed four matches in straight sets. A pair of Purdue freshmen put up a tough fight in the middle of order. Brancatelli provided Purdue's lone point on the day with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 win over Nathan Han at No. 5. Rohan Sachdev won his opening set against Justin Schlageter at No. 4 in a tiebreak, but the rookie fell in a super tiebreak 6-7(4), 6-4, 1-0(8).
