Men Sweep Sprints, Springboards in Loss at UND

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Tyler Downs impressed on the springboards and fellow Olympian Nikola Aćin teamed up with Brady Samuels for a sweep of the freestyle sprints, but the four victories were not enough to overcome Notre Dame's depth as the Purdue swimming & diving teams dropped both ends of Friday's co-ed dual meet.

Downs led the way as the Purdue men had the top four finishers on 1-meter and top five on 3-meter. He posted 400-point lists in both events, moving into seventh place in program history on each board with scores of 401.40 (1-meter) and 431.70 (3-meter). He won by 75 points on 1-meter and 59 points on 3-meter.

Aćin was victorious in the 100 free with a Purdue season-best time of 43.77. With Aćin not entered in the 50 free Friday, Samuels won the event with a time 20.33. The freshman has won an event in each of his first three collegiate meets.

Freshman Maggie Love led the women with a trio of runner-up individual finishes, demonstrating her versatility while taking second in the 100 breaststroke, 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley. She teamed with Masy Folcik and Angelina Rossi for a 2-3-4 finish in the 100 breast.

Aćin (200 free) and Samuels (100 fly) also finished as the runner-up in another event Friday. Aaron Frollo (500 and 1,000 free), Michael Juengel (100 and 200 back) and Coleman Modglin (100 and 200 breaststroke) were the other members of the men's team that managed to be the Boilermakers' top finishers in multiple events.

The Purdue women's top finisher posted a team season-best time in all 14 swimming events. Rachel Young (100 and 200 free), Kate Beavon (500 and 1,000 free) and Lindsay Turner (100 and 200 fly) joined Love as the Boilermakers' top finishers in multiple individual events.

Along with Aćin (100 free) and Downs (3-meter), Skyler Younkin (200 fly), Frollo (500 and 1,000 free), Juengel (200 back), Modglin (100 and 200 breast) and the 400 free relay team accounted for team season bests for the men.

The Purdue women compete again next Friday when they host Rutgers at 5 p.m. ET. The next co-ed meet is Friday, Nov. 5 when the Boilermakers host Michigan and Missouri for a 2 p.m. triple dual at the Burke Aquatic Center.
