Boilermakers Lead After Day One of Marquette Intercollegiate

<br /><br />HARTFORD, Wis. – The Purdue men's golf team turned in a strong round in its first round of the season, leading the Marquette Intercollegiate after 18 holes at prestigious Erin Hills Golf Course.

HARTFORD, Wis. – The Purdue men's golf team turned in a strong round in its first round of the season, leading the Marquette Intercollegiate after 18 holes at prestigious Erin Hills Golf Course.
 
The Boilermakers shot a 13-under par 275 to lead South Florida by three shots (-10). Texas A&M (-6), Kansas (-5) and Notre Dame (-3) round out of the top five.
 
Purdue's 275 was the seventh-best, 18-hole score in school history and the 13-under par in relation to par is fourth all time. It tied for the best opening-round score in school history.
 
The field consists of three ranked teams (Texas A&M – 16; Notre Dame – 24; Liberty – 25) and four others that are receiving votes.
 
The Boilermakers had an outstanding round, recording 19 birdies and one eagle to offset just 10 bogeys on the day. Purdue recorded no double bogeys or worse on the day and led the field in par-4 (-2) and par-5 (-10) scoring as well as birdies (19).
 
Cole Bradley and Herman Sekne led Purdue with a pair of 5-under par 67s. Sekne played the front nine in even-par, but blistered the back nine in 5-under par 31 for a career-best round of 67. Bradley, meanwhile, had four birdies and an eagle to offset a bogey on his 12th hole of the day for a 67. The duo is tied for third overall.
 
Senior Joe Weiler fired a bogey-free, 3-under par 69 to sit tied for 10th after 18 holes. Weiler recorded pars on every hole on the front nine, before playing the back nine in 33.
 
Andrew Farraye is tied for 30th at even-par 72, while Luke Prall, playing in his first career competitive round, shot a 2-over par 74, good for 49th.
 
Purdue will tee off round two at 11:40 a.m., to 12:20 p.m. ET, off hole 10 on Monday.
