HARTFORD, Wis. – The Purdue men's golf team recorded another strong round, but slipped to third after 36 holes at the Marquette Intercollegiate held at Erin Hills Golf Course.
Purdue posted a second-round tally of 10-under par 278 to post a 36-hole score of 23-under par 553 (275-278), falling to third place after strong rounds by South Florida and Texas A&M.
South Florida leads at 28-under par 548 (278-280), while Texas A&M is second at 25-under par 551 (282-269). Purdue is third, seven shots ahead of Kansas and Liberty at 16-under par.
The Boilermakers have shot 278 or better in consecutive rounds for just the fourth time in school history and the first time the fall season in 2015.
The Boilermakers were leading late in the round, until late in the day Monday. Purdue was hurt by the difficult par-3 9th hole, posting a pair of double-bogeys on the hole to knock the Boilermakers out of the lead. However, Purdue leads the field in par-4 (-4) and par-5 (-20) scoring, and is second among the 17 teams in birdies (40).
Joe Weiler continues to play outstanding golf, posting a 5-under par 67 for a 36-hole score of 8-under par 136 (69-67), good for a fifth-place tie, three shots off the lead. Weiler has played 36 holes at Erin Hills with eight birdies, 28 pars and no bogeys or worse.
Cole Bradley is tied for ninth at 7-under par 137 (67-70), playing another solid round Monday. Bradley recorded three birdies, one bogey and 14 pars en route to his 70.
Herman Sekne was among the leaders through 13 holes, but suffered a pair of double-bogeys to fall to a second-round 74 and a two-day total of 3-under par 141 (67-74), good for 24th place.
Sophomore Luke Prall turned in an outstanding round, moving up 18 spots to 31st after a second-round 68 and a two-round score of 2-under par 142 (74-68). Prall was 6-under par through 17 holes, before tallying a double-bogey on his final hole of the round – the par-3 9th.
Andrew Farraye is tied for 47th at 1-over par 145 (72-73).
Purdue will tee off Tuesday off hole No. 1, from 10:40 to 11:20 a.m. ET, and will be paired with leaders South Florida and Texas A&M.
