WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – No. 9 Purdue volleyball (6-1) opened the Stacey Clark Classic with a sweep over Jacksonville State (9-2). The Boilermakers' tradition of a defensive powerhouse took center stage with their season-best 13 total blocks and holding the Gamecocks to a .035 hitting clip in the win.
The victory was the fastest of the season, clocking in at an hour 20 minutes for Purdue's fifth sweep of the season.
Purdue, which ranks No. 9 in the nation in attack %, out-hit Jacksonville State with 39 kills and just 10 errors for a .284 clip. A balanced scoresheet saw nine Boilermakers with kills. Additionally, the effort included four Boilermakers hitting a .385 or better, with two errorless performances in middle blockers Taylor Trammell (5-0-6) and Raven Colvin (5-0-5).
Maddy Chinn and Grace Cleveland produced eight kills apiece to lead the team.
Freshman Ali Hornung made her first career start in the back row, serving up two aces and five digs in the match alongside senior libero Jena Otec, who led with 17 digs.
Setter Hayley Bush handed over the reins to Megan Renner after 22 assists and five digs in the first two sets. Renner followed with a career-high eight assists to go with one block assist and a pair of digs in set three.
