CHANDLER, Ariz. – The women's golf team wrapped up its 2021 season on a high note with a second-place finish at the Let Them Play Classic in Chandler, Arizona, on Friday. The event, hosted by Barstool Sports and Whirlwind Golf Club, allowed 12 schools and three individuals an opportunity to play in a final tournament after being denied a chance to advance to the NCAA Championship when the Baton Rouge Regional was canceled. Not a single shot was made by any of the 18 teams in attendance at the postseason regional over three days and the top six seeds and three individuals advanced to the national championship tournament automatically.
Purdue shot a 54-hole total of 4-under 644 (210+219+215) Thursday and Friday to finish seven strokes behind LTP Classic champion North Texas. The Mean Green and Boilermakers were the only two teams in the field to finish the three rounds under par.
Individually, Purdue got a pair of top 5 finishes out of junior Danielle du Toit and sophomore Sifat Sagoo. Du toit moved up one spot from Thursday to wrap up the two-day event alone in third among the 47 players in the field, with a three-round tally of 3-under par 213 (73+68+72). It marked the top finish on a leaderboard during du Toit's three-year collegiate career.
Sagoo rallied with a 2-under 70 Friday to complete the LTP Classic with a combined score of 1-under 215 (70+75+70) and in a tie for fourth individually. Sagoo, who began the day in a tie for 10th, moved up six spots over the final 18. Sagoo, who shot two rounds of 2-under 70 in the 54 holes played at the LTP Classic, has three top 10 tournament finishes in her two years at Purdue.
Sophomore Kan Bunnabodee wrapped up the scoring for the Boilermakers with her fourth career top 20 finish, placing 14th with a 54-hole score of 5-over 220 (67+76+77).
Due to all of the schools not being able to send a full contingent of players to the LTP Classic, the top three individual scores from each university were used for the team score for all three rounds and the final tally.
