CARMEL, Ind. – Joe Weiler fired a 4-under par 68 and helped the Purdue men's golf team move up three spots to T-7th after 36 holes of the Big Ten Championships.

Saturday's wind relented a bit from Friday's gusts and scores improved significantly on the difficult Crooked Stick Golf Club layout. Saturday's average score of 76.63 was over two strokes lower than Friday's scoring average of 78.71.

After just one player recorded a below-par round on Friday, six players posted below-par rounds highlighted by Purdue's Joe Weiler, who fired a 4-under par 68 – the only round in the 60s so far through 36 holes.

Meanwhile, in Friday's first round, no teams shot in the 200s, while in Saturday's second round, five teams recorded scores under 300.

The Boilermakers took advantage of better scoring conditions, being one of those five teams in the 200s, shooting an 11-over par 299 for a 36-hole total of 36-over par 612 (313-299). Purdue moved up three spots into a tie for seventh with Penn State and is now only six shots behind third-place Michigan State and Northwestern (30-over par 606).

Illinois leads at 18-over par and is followed by Iowa (+20), Michigan State (+30) and Northwestern (+30), Rutgers (+32) and Ohio State (+34).

The story of Purdue's day was senior Joe Weiler. Playing the back nine first, Weiler bogeyed his first hole, then recorded an eagle on the par-5 11th to move to 1-under for his round. He would go on to birdie holes 13, 15, 17 and 18 to offset a bogey on 16 to play his first nine in 4-under par.

He played the front nine in even-par, recording a birdie on his final hole for a tournament-best round of 68. His 68 is the sixth-best round by a Purdue player in Big Ten Championships history and in relation to par, the 4-under par tally is tied for the second-best effort.

Freshman Herman Sekne rebounded from a tough first round to tally a 3-over par 75. Sekne had an up-and-down round, recording an eagle on 11 that was followed by a pair of bogeys. He then birdied 16, before hitting the ball into the water on 17 for a double-bogey. He would go on to play the front nine in 2-over par for his 75.

Nick Dentino and Peyton Snoeberger tallied 78s and Cole Bradley recorded a 79 in Saturday's second round.

Purdue will tee off the final round off hole No. 1 at 8 a.m. ET, on Sunday. The Boilermakers will be paired with only Penn State.
