Back Nine Costs Boilermakers at Kepler Intercollegiate

<br /><br />COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Purdue men's golf team played well on the front nine, but its back-nine struggles cost it dearly on the first day of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate held at the Ohio State Golf Club's Scarlet Course.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Purdue men's golf team played well on the front nine, but its back-nine struggles cost it dearly on the first day of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate held at the Ohio State Golf Club's Scarlet Course.
 
The Boilermakers enter Sunday's third and final round in a 10th-place tie at 21-over par 589 after rounds of 295-294. Illinois leads at 1-under par 567, while Northwestern and Indiana are tied for second at 9-over par 577.
 
Penn State (+10), Kent State (+11), Iowa (+12), Liberty (+13), Ohio State (+14) and Maryland (+20) are all within striking distance with a good round Sunday.
 
The Boilermakers' day could be divided into two parts – the front nine and the back nine.
 
Purdue's five golfers were a combined 2-over par on the front nine, but went a combined 28-over par on the back nine of the Scarlet Course. Purdue recorded seven double-bogeys in the two rounds, six of which came on the back nine.
 
Joe Weiler leads the Boilermakers after 36 holes with a 4-over par 146 (73-73), good for T-25th. Cole Bradley and Peyton Snoeberger are tied for 31st at 5-over par 147, Nick Dentino is tied for 47th at 7-over par 149 and Herman Sekne is tied for 58th at 9-over par 151.
 
Final round tee times will start at 9 a.m. ET, off holes 1 and 10.
