BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team finished the 2021 regular season with an emphatic win Sunday afternoon on the road at Indiana. The Boilermakers dominated the second leg of their Governor's Cup series in a 5-2 decision.
The win was Purdue's fourth straight against Indiana and kept the senior class perfect against their in-state foes.
The doubles point was a tight affair from the beginning and needed a tiebreak for the decision. Ena Babic and Csilla Fodor rolled at No. 1 against Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Jelly Bozovic for a 6-3 win, before Nathalia Wolf Gasparin and Zala Dovnik fell by the same score at No. 2. Zeynep Naz Ozturk and Seira Shimizu outlasted Caitlin Bernard and Mila Mejic at No. 3 to clinch the point 7-6 (3).
In singles play, Fodor made quick work of Andrinopoulos at No. 2, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 win. After Indiana rallied back with a straight-sets win at No. 4, Dovnik won a marathon match at No. 3 against Alexandra Staiculescu, 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(4), to pull the Boilermakers within one point of winning.
Wolf Gasparin sealed the win at No. 5. The Brazilian international rallied from a set down to oust Michelle McKamey for Purdue's fourth point at No. 5 in a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 decision.
Babic capped off the match with a three-set thriller at the top of the lineup against Laura Masic. The senior downed the headliner from Indiana in a 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-2 match.
