WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's golf team played consistent golf all weekend and were rewarded with a third-place finish at the Boilermaker Invitational held at the Kampen Course over the weekend.

Amid cold, windy conditions on Sunday, the Boilermakers shot a 1-over par 289 to finish the 54-hole event in 5-under par 859 (282-288-289), seven shots behind team champion Kent State and five behind Illinois.

The Boilermakers tied with Minnesota and defeated Indiana by a shot, using birdies on the final holes played by Joe Weiler and Nick Dentino to move past the Hoosiers and into a third-place tie.

Purdue has now finished in the top three in 11 of the 17 Boilermaker Invitationals all-time. The Boilermakers needed to have a strong finish to put themselves in position for a possible NCAA Regional berth announced in early May.

Joe Weiler continues to lead the Boilermakers, finishing fourth at 3-under par 213 (69-73-71). Weiler had a consistent final round with 13 pars, three birdies and two bogeys for his eighth round this year of even-par or better.

Nick Dentino had his best tournament of the season with a pair of bounceback rounds over the final 36 holes. Dentino finished T-17th at even-par 216 (76-71-69). His 4-under par 140 over the final two rounds was the third-best score over the final 36 holes behind only the runner-up and individual champion. His 69 on Sunday was one of just five rounds in the 60s during the blustery final round.

Cole Bradley recorded his second top-20 finish of the season, placing 20th at 1-over par 217 (72-72-73). Peyton Snoeberger was tied for 33rd at 5-over par 221 and Herman Sekne was tied for 59th at 11-over par 227.

In the individual tournament held at Ackerman-Allen, Andrew Farraye finished third at 4-under par 212 (72-71-69).

Purdue has two more chances to improve its NCAA Regionals resume, coming in two weeks at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at Ohio State and the Big Ten Championships at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, in three weeks.
