WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team celebrated the careers of seniors Ena Babic and Zala Dovnik on Sunday for a Senior Day matchup against Illinois. The Boilermakers dropped the contest by a score of 4-1.
Ena Babic and Csilla Fodor cruised to their 10th overall doubles match win of the season, besting Sasha Belaya and Emilee Duong 6-1 at No. 1. Illinois knotted it back up at one match apiece with a win at No. 2, leaving it down to the match at No. 3. Seira Shimizu and Rut Galindo fought to the brink, but fell to the Illinois duo 6-4.
Fodor continued her dominance in singles play as she cruised her way to a win at No. 2 against Emilee Duong by a final score of 6-1, 6-1. The sophomore improved to an overall 12-4 record in singles play on the year.
Illinois wins at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 in straight sets clinched the match for the Fighting Illini, their seventh victory on the season.
After trading the first two sets at No. 1, Babic pulled ahead 3-2 in the thrid set against Asuka Kawai before the match was halted.
Purdue travels next Sunday to take on their bitter in-state rival Indiana at 11 AM. The Boilermakers came out victorious in their last meeting, which took place at Schwartz Tennis Center earlier this season.
