WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team hosted Wisconsin on Sunday for the second half of the weekend home stand, falling to the Badgers 4-0.
The Boilermakers trailed early, losing doubles matches at No. 2 and No. 3. Ena Babic and Csilla Fodor were on top 5-4 when their match was halted. Wisconsin took a 1-0 advantage.
Purdue was unable to get any momentum in singles play, dropping matches at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 6 in straight sets.
The sole set win for the Boilermakers came at No. 4, where Seira Shimizu forced a tiebreaker with Wisconsin's Anna Makarova. The Japanese international dominated the tiebreaker 7-2. Shimizu was ahead 1-0 in the second set when the match was halted.
Csilla Fodor and Nathalia Wolf Gasparin each were tied in their second sets when their matches were ceased at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively.
The loss ends a two-match win streak for the Boilermakers. They will look to bounce back on the road next weekend, traveling to Northwestern on Saturday and Illinois on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. EST.
