7th Inning Comeback Leads Purdue to Victory

<br /><br />Purdue split the day versus Maryland with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to finish the day wtih a 2-1 victory and a 4-1 loss.

LEESBURG, Fla. – Purdue softball (3-5), fueled by a triple in the bottom of the seventh by lead-off batter Kiley Goff, split the doubleheader versus Maryland (4-4) by taking game two, 2-1. The victory comes after a 2-1 loss in the first game of the day to the Terrapins.

Rachel Becker led the day with three hits and two RBI. Meanwhile Goff, Becca Jones and Ashley Peters each recorded a run.

In the circle, senior Sydney Bates was tabbed with the complete game victory.

GAME TWO | W, 2-1
After trailing Maryland 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, freshman catcher Goff blasted a triple to deep center field as the leadoff batter to put the team in scoring position. With Ashley Peters due up, the sophomore pitcher secured the tying run with an RBI on a single up the middle. Pinch hitter Rylee Platusic entered the game and immediately singled. When Kiersen George was hit by a pitch, the bases were loaded as Purdue returned to the top of the lineup. Rachel Becker secured the win on an RBI, allowing the game to end after Peters crossed home.
 
Sydney Bates pitched a complete game, facing 25 batters and allowing just five hits, walking one and striking out six.

GAME ONE | L, 4-1
After going scoreless through the first four innings, Purdue opened the fifth with a run by junior Becca Jones. As the second batter up, Jones made base on a double to left field. After Goff earning the walk, Becker registered a double, allowing Jones to score. The inning ended with one runner left on base. In the bottom of the fifth, the Terrapins responded with four runs, which the Boilermakers were unable to answer.

Ashley Peters moves to 2-2 on the season, while Alex Echazarreta and Savanah Henley saw time in the circle. Peters struck out three over her 4.1 innings of work, while relief pitchers Henley and Echazarreta recorded two and one strikeout, respectively.
