IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Purdue women's tennis team fell on the road at Iowa on Sunday afternoon 6-1 to wrap up a two-match roadswing.
The Boilermakers had to battle back from an early deficit after the Hawkeyes took the doubles points with matching 6-1 wins at No. 2 and 3. Ena Babic and Csilla Fodor were rallying down 4-2 when play was called.
In singles, Purdue's lone point came at No. 4 in Rut Galindo. The freshman knocked of Vipasha Mehra in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Babic fell in a tight 7-5, 7-5 match against No. 97 Alexa Noel at No. 1. Nathalia Wolf Gasparin was bested in a super tiebreak against Michelle Bacalla at No. 6, 4-6, 7-5, 10-6. Fodor was the lone Boilermaker to play a full third set, dopping a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 decision to Elise van Heuvelen at No. 2
The Boilermakers will return to the Schwartz Tennis Center to renew its storied rivalry with Indiana next Sunday at noon.
