MINNEAPOLIS – Kate Beavon earned a spot among the program's all-time fastest in the 500 freestyle en route to scoring in the B final of the event, highlighting the first full day of action at the Big Ten Championships for Purdue women's swimming.

Beavon finished 16th among a field of 68 in the preliminaries with her team season-best time of 4:48.61, good for 15th place in program history. She moved up one spot on her second swim with a seventh-place finish in the B final, accounting for 12 team points.

Freshmen Kate Saczawa and Belle Hinshaw won consecutive heats of the 50 free in the prelims. Saczawa and classmate Kali Sayovitz finished 1-2 in heat 3. Fellow freshman Kendal Schreder was Purdue's top finisher, placing 34th overall among a field of 95 with a Purdue season-best time of 23.42. Claire Abbasse was just one hundredth of a second behind at 23.43.

Natalie Myers led the way in the 200 IM, placing 31st among a field of 68 with a team season best of 2:01.73. That would have been good for 15th in program history, but the senior already holds the No. 3 spot. The all-time lists only feature a swimmer's career-best mark.

Tessa Wrightson and Riley Kishman swam the first two legs on Purdue's medley relay team for the second night in a row, handling the backstroke and breaststroke legs on the 400 team Wednesday while teaming with Lindsay Turner and Abbasse. The group finished ninth to earn 40 team points, posting a season-best mark of 3:41.60.

Hayley Pike (35th in 500 free) accounted for another top-40 finish with a personal season-best time of 4:54.14. Erin Verbrugge posted a career-best time of 2:03.52 in a 200 IM time trial, improving on her prelim mark Wednesday by more than a second.

Purdue remained in 10th place in the team scoring but figures to climb over the next three days as diving events begin Thursday in West Lafayette with the 3-meter competition. Meanwhile in Minneapolis, the 100 fly, 400 IM and 200 free are on the schedule for Thursday. Swimming prelims begin at noon ET and diving gets underway at 12:20 p.m. All the action is live on BTN+.
