<br /><br />No. 11 Purdue volleyball (5-4) swept Northwestern (2-1) in Holloway Gymnasium Friday night, 25-20, 25-15, 25-13.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – No. 11 Purdue volleyball (5-4) swept Northwestern (2-1) in Holloway Gymnasium Friday night, 25-20, 25-15, 25-13.

The Boilermakers recorded a .267 hitting clip on the night while holding the Wildcats to a -.050 attack %, the lowest by a Purdue opponent in five seasons.

No. 11 Purdue's offense was led by Caitlyn Newton, who recorded 14 kills and four errors on 35 attempts for a .286 hitting %. Meanwhile, Maddy Chinn led the team in efficiency with six kills and one error on her way to a .417 attack mark.

At the net, Purdue out-blocked Northwestern 11-4, with the final nine Boilermaker blocks notched in the final two sets. Jael Johnson and Grace Cleveland registered six block assists apiece on the night to lead the team.

Meanwhile, senior libero Jena Otec notched a team-best seven digs and redshirt-junior Hayley Bush tallied 24 assists on the outing.

Set 1 (25-20)
There were ten tied scores in the first set with seven lead changes. With the score 18-17 in favor of Purdue, the Boilermakers pulled away with a five-point unanswered run, spurred on by a kill from Cleveland to bring the score to 22-17, Purdue. Johnson sealed the set win with an ace. Chinn got off to a hot start going errorless in the first set with four kills on seven swings for a .571 hitting clip.  

Set 2 (25-15)
Purdue opened the set with a 5-1 lead, which included a pair of back-to-back block assists by Cleveland and Johnson. Cleveland went on to post four assisted blocks in the set while teammates Otec and Bush contributed two and once ace, respectively.

Set 3 (25-13)
The Boilermakers posted a .400 attack % in the set, the highest of the night. Bush recorded her lone kill of the match to break the neck-and-neck battle and bring the score to 5-4 and went on to record 10 assists in the set as the Boilermakers pulled quickly away from the Wildcats. On her first touch of the night, Emma Terwilliger recorded an ace for her first of the 2021 season. Meanwhile Cleveland added another four block assists to close out the match.
