KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Purdue struggled early in the round, but finished strong and sits in 10th place at the Kiawah Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston.
Twelve of the 14 teams were still on the course in round two, when darkness descended on the coast, ending play at 5:52 p.m. ET, making only first-round scores official on day one. The remaining teams on the course will finish round two on Tuesday morning, then roll right into the final round.
The Boilermakers totaled an even-par 288 to finish round one in 10th place. Wake Forest leads with a 21-under par 267 after 18 holes, while Kentucky (-12), East Tennessee State (-8), UNC Wilmington (-6), Ohio State (-5) and Clemson (-5) round out the top five.
Freshman Herman Sekne led the Boilermakers in round one with a 2-under par 70. Sekne bogeyed his first two holes of the round, but played the final 16 holes in 4-under par for his low round to date. He was in a tie for 17th after 18 holes.
Cole Bradley and Peyton Snoeberger were tied for 35th after 18 holes at even-par 72. Nick Dentino was tied for 59th at 2-over par 74 and Joe Weiler shot a 5-over par 77.
Playing as an individual, Andrew Farraye shot 3-over par 75, good for 67th after the first round.
Second-round action will resume at 8 a.m. ET, at Oak Point Golf Club at the Kiawah Island Resort.
