<br /><br />Playing its first dual match in 341 days, the Purdue women's tennis team dropped its 2021 season opener on the road at No. 10 Ohio State 6-1, with the lone point coming from Csilla Fodor in singles play. 

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Playing its first dual match in 341 days, the Purdue women's tennis team dropped its 2021 season opener on the road at No. 10 Ohio State 6-1, with the lone point coming from Csilla Fodor in singles play. 

Fodor put the Boilermakers (0-1, 0-1) on the board in singles action, knocking off Isabelle Boulais at No. 2 in straight sets 6-0, 7-5. The Boca Raton, Fla., native improved to 5-1 in singles matches this semester with the victory. 

Ena Babic took No. 78 Irina Cantos to a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1. The Croatia international came up just short in a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(0) decision against the top Buckeye.

Babic and Fodor nearly posted their first ranked doubles win this season, as the duo held a 5-4 advantage against No. 42 Kolie Allen and Irina Cantos when the doubles point was halted.

The Buckeyes (4-2, 1-0) took the opening doubles point with a 6-3 win by Lisa Hofbauer and Lucia Marzal against Zala Dovnik and Nathalia Wolf Gasparin, followed by a 6-2 victory at No. 3 by Boulais and Madeline Atway over Rut Galindo and Seira Shimizu. Ohio State took singles wins at No. 5, 3 and 6 to clinch the match. 

The Boilermakers will round out their opening-weekend roadswing at Penn State on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
