WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team held its first competition since March of last season with the first day of the Purdue Invite. The Boilermakers squared off with Big Ten foe Illinois in a series of individual matches Friday afternoon.
Ena Babic and Csilla Fodor led the way for the afternoon with both players winning their doubles and singles matches.
Babic, a 2020 All-Big Ten honoree, knocked off No. 107 Asuka Kawai in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, while Fodor downed Kate Duong 6-1, 6-2. The duo opened the afternoon edging Emilee and Kate Duong in doubles 7-5.
Nathalia Wolf Gasparin and Zala Dovnik also picked up a win in doubles with a dominant 6-1 performance against Ashley Yeah and Emily Casati.
In other singles action, Zeynep Naz Ozturk fell to Casati 6-2, 6-4. Rut Galindo, in her debut for the Boilermakers dropped her contest to Josie Frazier 6-1, 6-4. Dovnik was topped by E. Duong 6-1, 6-3 and Shimizu just missed out on a third set in a 6-3, 7-6 (5) loss to Yeah.
The Boilermakers will return to action for day two of the Purdue Invite on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Iowa.
