MADISON, Wis. - A major upset swayed Sunday's result for the No. 16 ranked Purdue wrestling team as they suffered a 22-14 dual loss at 22nd-ranked Wisconsin. The Boilermakers won four of the 10 weight classes as sophomores Kendall Coleman and Thomas Penola improved to 3-0 on the year, while freshman Gerrit Nijenhuis picked up his second win of the weekend to move to 2-0.

The dual score went back-and-forth over the first seven weights, seeing two ties and four lead changes. Coleman tied the score at 3-3 with his 14-10 decision over No. 21 Garrett Model at 157 pounds, and Nijenhuis followed with an 11-4 decision at 165 pounds, posting a win over Josh Otto. Wisconsin took the lead back with narrow wins at 174 and 184, but Penola put the Boilermakers back on top with a dominant 13-4 major decision over Andrew Salemme at 197. Penola scored nine points in the third period, including three takedowns in the win.

After a win for sixth-ranked Wisconsin heavyweight Trent Hilger made it 12-10, the dual swung hard at 125 pounds as Badger sophomore Eric Barnett reversed Purdue's No. 2 Devin Schroder to his back and earned a fall for an 18-10 advantage. Wisconsin sealed the dual with a major decision at 133 pounds, but Purdue junior Parker Filius finished up the dual with a 15-3 major decision over Dominic Dentino.

Purdue moves to 1-2 on the season and returns to action next Sunday, staying on the road at Rutgers for a tri-dual with the Scarlet Knights and Minnesota.
