SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Purdue men's golf team struggled in the final round in Arizona, falling to a fifth-place tie at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate held on the Outlaw Course at Desert Mountain.
The Boilermakers totaled a 54-hole score of 24-over par 888 (287-300-301) to finish tied for fifth with Lipscomb. No. 10-ranked Vanderbilt ran away with the victory with a 22-under par 842 (268-290-284), topping runner-up Mississippi State by 24 shots. Northwestern was fourth at 11-over par, three shots better than Missouri.
Joe Weiler led the Boilermakers with a ninth-place finish at 2-under par 214 (68-74-72). Weiler played consistent golf all week, leading the field in pars made with 40.
Freshman Nick Dentino and junior Jason Hong tied for 17th at 6-over par 222. Dentino totaled rounds of 73-76-73 while Hong finished at 72-75-75.
Playing as an individual, freshman Peyton Snoeberger finished tied for 43rd at 13-over par 229 (76-74-79).
Andrew Farraye finished tied for 59th at 234, while Cole Bradley was 67th at 244.
Purdue's next action comes at the John Hayt Invitational on March 29 and 30, in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
