BOWLING GREEN, Ky.
– Evan Albrecht tied a program record with a five-hit game, singling twice in a nine-run first inning, as Purdue baseball enjoyed an offensive outburst in a 19-1 victory vs. Western Kentucky on Sunday.

The Boilermakers (7-7) snapped their six-game losing streak with their first 20-hit showing since a March 2017 win at Ball State. Purdue's nine-run first inning was its most prolific rally since also scoring nine times in a March win at Jacksonville State last season. The 19 total runs were the program's most since scoring 27 in a May 2018 victory vs. Purdue Fort Wayne.

Jett Jackson worked five innings of one-run ball to earn his first collegiate win. The freshman has pitched 16 innings of two-run ball over his last three starts. The Boilermakers limited WKU (10-5) to just six hits after the home team had scored 19 runs over the first two games of the series.

Albrecht posted the 16th five-hit game in program history and first since Daniel Sander at Valparaiso in May 2016. He singled in each of his first five at-bats and already had five hits by the sixth inning, a frame in which Purdue batted around again while scoring five times. The sophomore's seven at-bats also tied a team record.

The Boilermakers scored in six of the first seven frames. Western Kentucky used 11 pitchers, including four before the end of the second inning.

Purdue returns to action Friday when it begins a three-game series at Evansville. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. ET.

SUNDAY NOTABLES
Skyler Hunter (single, bases-loaded walk), Ben Nisle (HBP, single) and Zac Fascia (two-run single, RBI fielder's choice) joined Evan Albrecht as Boilermakers with two productive plate appearances in the first inning.
All eight of Purdue's hits during the nine-run rally were singles. The Boilermakers scored more runs in that single frame than they had in the first three games of the week combined (seven).
Hunter's sacrifice fly in the second inning produced his 100th career RBI. He led off the game with a hit for the fifth time in the last seven contests. With 221 career hits, he has moved into 15th place in program history. He's the first player to join the all-time hits list since four did so during the 2012 Big Ten championship season.
Miles Simington enjoyed an excellent all-around game. At the plate, he was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored. In the second inning, he made two nice plays in right field. With two men aboard and one out, he made a running over-the-shoulder catch with his back to home plate. He later threw out a runner at the plate on a two-out, bases-loaded single. On the base paths, he executed a walk-off play successfully, staying in the rundown between first and second long enough so Fascia could score from third base.
Mike Bolton Jr. and Tanner Haston both registered their first collegiate hits in the seventh inning. Bolton doubled down the left field line and Haston earned an RBI as well with his infield single.
Fascia recorded his second career four-RBI game, three coming in the first inning. He opened the scoring with a bases-loaded single up the middle that plated a pair.
Jett Jackson's consecutive scoreless innings streak ended at nine when WKU registered its only tally of the day with a two-out single in the bottom of the second. Jackson surrendered only four hits but did walk six.
Albrecht made a nifty defensive play to save a run in the third inning. The shortstop made a sliding stop on a grounder near the second base bag and glove flipped the ball to Tyler Powers for the inning-ending out at second. Powers was also part of inning-ending double plays in seventh and ninth. Offensively, Albrecht added two RBI to his five singles, pushing his team-leading total to 14 RBI. His batting average jumped from .297 to .364 Sunday. He hit safely in all three games of the series, accomplishing that feat for the second time this season while finishing the weekend 7-for-15.
Mason Gavre and Powers both finished with a pair of hits. Kyle LaPlante (single, 2 HBP) and Nisle (single, 2 walks, HBP) both reached base safely at least 3 times. Nisle hit safely and scored a run in all three games of the series.
Jackson Smeltz struck out a pair while working a 1-2-3 sixth inning, Purdue's lone true 1-2-3 frame of the day.
