FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Boilermakers drew a pair of losses in the final day of the Colorado State Classic, falling in both games to their host, Colorado State, 11-5 and 4-3 (six innings).

After resuming Friday's halted game at Colorado State in a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning, the Boilermakers faltered in the bottom of the fifth.

The game, which closed Friday with the Boilermakers scoring three runs before the game was halted due to darkness, picked up Sunday with a 4-3 Purdue advantage. However, the Boilermaker lead fell short, with the Rams resuming the contest with six runs in the bottom of the fourth, a feat Purdue was unable to recover from.

In the loss, Purdue registered 11 hits, just two shy of the team's game-high (13 vs. Fairfield). The effort was led by Halle Hixenbaugh and Skye Webb, who each secured three hits apiece.

Ashley Peters (2-2) recorded the loss after pitching three innings of work. Brenna Smith and Sydney Bates entered in relief for peters

In game two of the doubleheader, the Boilermakers took the lead in the third inning and held it until the bottom of the fifth, but the drop-dead time crippled Purdue from responding to the two runs scored minutes before the cut-off time.

Rachel Becker, Skye Webb and Kasey Wilhoit produced the runs to close out the Colorado State Classic. Wilhoit was responsible for two RBI on a double the sophomore sent down left field. Two batters later, Wilhoit was caught in a run-down between third and home base, but was able to out-maneuver the Rams and score, sliding home.

Sydney Bates (9-4) pitched the six innings, striking out six, including two looking.

Next weekend, the Boilermakers will compete in its final non-conference tournament before Big Ten play opens at Michigan. Purdue will compete in the Tiger Classic in Memphis, Tennessee, from Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15.
