BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Purdue softball team improved to 4-0 on the season following a standout second day of the FAU First Pitch Classic. The Boilermakers secured a pair of victories with an 8-7 seventh inning come-back win over Indiana State and a 14-3 (5 innings) win at FAU.
Leading the day was Becca Jones, who produced a 1.000 batting average after four appearances at the plate. The junior scored three runs while adding six RBI to her name. Additionally, Jones tallied a 1.750 slugging percentage, while Madison Douglass and Skye Webb also slugged over 1.000, checking in at 1.000 and 1.167, respectively. Rachel Becker produced a team-most four runs.
Meanwhile in the circle, Sydney Bates (2-0) pitched a complete game for the victory versus the Sycamores. Brenna Smith (2-0) took home the win against the Owls, having pitched three innings.
Eleven Boilermakers scored in the late-night victory at FAU. Leading the effort was Jones and Webb, who each produced two runs on four RBI.
The Boilermaker sweet spot was found while batting with two outs on the board. Of Purdue's 22 runs, 13 were scored with two outs (59%).
Purdue is one of just two Big Ten programs to own a 4-0 record to start the season. With one game remaining for Purdue in the First Pitch Classic, the Boilermakers will take on FAU one final time Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET.
