WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue wrestling senior Dylan Lydy made the most of his final home dual, posting a 5-2 decision over the nation's No. 6 wrestler in Mackey Arena on Friday. The Boilermakers fell to fourth-ranked Nebraska 31-9, winning three matches overall as the move to 11-5 overall and 4-4 in conference action, while the Huskers improved to 8-3 (3-3 B1G).
Before the start of the dual head coach Tony Ersland and the Purdue staff honored Lydy and fellow seniors Christian Brunner and Nate Limmex, and Lydy followed through for his classmates with his seventh top-10 victory of the season and his 27th win overall.
After trading escapes over the first five minutes and tied 1-1, Lydy turned in up in the third period with two takedowns, pushing his career total to 262 and remains one shy of Scott Hinkel for 14th on Purdue's all-time leaderboard.
No. 6 junior Devin Schroder and sophomore Parker Filius accounted for Purdue's other two wins of the night as Schroder picked up his 23rd win of the season at 125 pounds, while Filius improved to 16-7 overall at 141 pounds.
Schroder scored in all three periods in a workmanlike 8-2 win over Alex Thomsen. He had a takedown in each period, and cut Thomsen loose late as he chased a major, but ran out of time. Filius posted takedowns in the first and second and then put on a strong ride in the third in his 6-1 victory over Zak Hensley.
Freshman Thomas Penola nearly pulled off a win over returning NCAA Qualifier David Jensen at heavyweight, but ran out of time in a 12-8 loss. Jensen built a 9-0 lead over the first two periods, but Penola refused to go away, scoring three takedowns and a pair of stall points in the third.
