Boilermakers Fall to Penn State in Big Ten Match Play Quarterfinals

PALM COAST, Fla. – The Purdue men's golf team earned wins from Joe Weiler and Jason Hong, but couldn't lost a pair of close matches to fall to Penn State in Friday afternoon's quarterfinal round by a 3-2-1 tally.
 
The loss sends Purdue to the consolation bracket, where it will face No. 3-seeded Minnesota on Saturday morning.
 
Joe Weiler defeated Ryan Davis at the No. 1 spot by a 1-up margin. Weiler fell behind by three through seven holes, but rallied to win three holes in a four-hole span midway through the round to move 1-up with four holes to play. The pair then played even the rest of the way as Weiler won the match.
 
Jason Hong earned Purdue's other win with a 1-up win at the No. 4 spot. Hong also fell behind by two through five holes before taking a lead with seven holes to play. The pair also played even golf the rest of the way as Hong earned the 1-up victory.
 
Andrew Farraye earned a half-point with an all-square match against Lukas Clark at No. 3. Neither player led by more than one hole during the match.
