BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Blake Ratliff, Brady Robinson, Michael Smith and Dale Williams earned spots on the Purdue's travel roster for next week's Big Ten Championships based on their performances at a two-day First Chance meet hosted by Indiana.
Ratliff, Robinson, Smith and Williams all posted one time that was in line with what it could take to produce a scoring finish at Big Tens. They'll return to Bloomington on Tuesday with their teammates as IU hosts the four-day, seven-session conference championship meet this year.
Williams (3:55.87, 2nd), Ratliff (3:58.13, 3rd) and Robinson (3:58.32, 4th) all posted times in the 400 individual medley that rank among the top five on the team this year. Smith (1:48.76, 4th) did likewise in the 200 butterfly and Ratliff (1:49.78, 4th) accomplished the feat again in the 200 backstroke.
Along with the host Hoosiers, the meet featured men's swimmers from Northwestern, Wisconsin, Indianapolis, Bellarmine and Wabash. Prelims and finals sessions were featured both days.
The Big Ten Championships begin Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. ET with the opening night relays.
