IOWA CITY, Iowa – Emily Bretscher won bronze on 1-meter as a pair of Boilermakers finished top five in the championship final of the event, highlighting Thursday at the Big Ten Championships for Purdue women's swimming & diving.
Bretscher won her first career medal at Big Tens while qualifying for her fourth career championship final. Emily Meaney competed in her fifth career championship final and finished fifth. With Maggie Merriman (23rd) and Maycey Vieta (24th) also scoring in the 1-meter prelim, the divers accounted for 55 team points Thursday.
Natalie Myers was a B finalist in the 200 individual medley, posting a career-best time of 1:59.54 in the prelim. That moved her into third place in program history and doubled as an NCAA provisional qualifying time (B Cut).
On the leadoff leg of the 400 medley relay, Tessa Wrightson's 100 backstroke leadoff split of 54.11 was good for fifth in the team record book. She teamed with Jinq En Phee, Mallory Jump and Kendra Bowen to post the fourth-fastest time (3:35.54) in the event. It marked the second night in a row that the Boilermakers' medley relay team registered a time that ranks fourth in program history. Phee raced on Purdue's 400 medley relay team at Big Tens for the fourth consecutive year.
Maizie Seidl (4:48.60, 500 free) and Bowen (23.16, 50 free) accounted for Purdue season-best times in the prelims of their events.
The Big Ten Championships continue Friday with prelims at noon ET and finals at 7:30 p.m. ET.
