RIO GRANDE, P.R. – Sophomore Andrew Farraye shot a 4-under par 68 and Purdue totaled a 2-under par 286 to sit in a fifth-place tie after 18 holes at the competitive Puerto Rico Classic held at the Rio Mar Beach Resort's River Course.
 
Farraye is tied for the medalist lead with Georgia Tech's Connor Howe, one shot ahead of four other golfers. Farraye's round, his third of the season in the 60s and ninth round of even-par or better, featured five birdies and just one bogey, which came on his final hole of the day.
 
Farraye's strong start propelled Purdue into fifth place after 18 holes with a 2-under par 286. No. 2-ranked Oklahoma leads the way at 7-under par 281 and followed by No. 3-ranked Georgia Tech (282), No. 18-ranked Georgia (285) and No. 50-ranked Alabama (285). The Boilermakers are tied for fifth with No. 23-ranked Clemson.
 
Junior Cole Bradley also had a strong opening round with a 2-under par 70, good for T-7th. Bradley was steady all day recording three birdies, 14 pars and just one bogey.
 
Joe Weiler is tied for 38th after a 1-over par 73, while Nick Dentino and Jason Hong are tied for 51st at 3-over par 75.
 
Round two will start Monday morning at 7 a.m. ET.
