WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team opened its two-match homestand this weekend with a 6-1 win over DePaul at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The Boilermakers bounced back into the win column with a decisive singles outing, sweeping all six matches.
The Boilermakers needed a rally after doubles play. The Blue Demons took an early advantage with a 6-1 at No. 1, before Ena Babic and Alex Sabe leveled the score with a 6-4 victory at No. 3 against Hristina Djokic and Marija Jovicic. Nathalia Wolf Gasparin and Zala Dovnik were narrowly edged at No. 2 in a tiebreak against Maddie Yergler and Aspasia Avgeri 7-6(6).
Purdue roared back into the match in singles action. Dovnik made quick work of Jovicic at No. 5 in a 6-2, 6-0 decision to tie the match. Babic held off Alina Kuzmenkova over straight sets 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1, before Alex Sabe put the hosts within one point of clinching the match at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Yuliya Kizelbasheva.
Seira Shimizu sealed the win for Purdue at No. 2, edging Avgeri 6-3, 7-5.
Csilla Fodor added to the singles haul from the No. 6 spot, outlasting Yergler 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Nikol Dobrilova completed the singles sweep with a three-set decision against Lenka Antonijevic at No. 4 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
