ERIN, Wis. – The Purdue men's golf team pieced together its best round of the season to move up eight places and into first place after 36 holes at the Marquette Intercollegiate.
Purdue shot a season-best score of 10-under par 278 to jump from ninth to first with a 36-hole score of 3-over par 579 (301-278). The Boilermakers shaved 23 strokes off their first-round score, posting the 13th-best, 18-hole score in relation to par in school history. The 278 was tied for the 20th-best round in Purdue history.
However, Purdue holds just a tenuous one-shot lead over UCLA (292-288=580) and a two-stroke lead over Indiana (300-281=581). Northwestern (+6), UC Davis (+6), South Florida (+7) and Marquette (+10) are also within striking distance.
Purdue turned in the round of the day by three shots, mostly by avoiding the big score. One day after the Purdue counting team recorded six double-bogeys, the Boilermakers had zero double-bogeys or worse in round two and recorded 19 birdies against just nine bogeys.
There were nine rounds in the 60s in round two, with three of them coming from Purdue players.
Sophomore Andrew Farraye and junior Cole Bradley are tied for sixth at 1-under par 143. Farraye recorded his third straight round of even-par or better with a second-round 71 to sit at 1-under par 143 (72-71). Bradley fired a season-best 69 in the second round for his 143 (74-69).
Joe Weiler is tied for 12th at 1-over par 145 (76-69), while Jason Hong moved up 22 spots into T-46th at 8-over par 152 (83-69).
Nick Dentino is tied for 51st at 9-over par 153 (79-74). Playing as an individual, Peyton Snoeberger is tied for 53rd at 10-over par 154 (78-76).
Purdue will tee off in the final round at 10:40 a.m. ET, off hole No. 1, and will be paired with Indiana and UCLA.
