BARK RIVER, Mich. – The Purdue men's golf team couldn't hold a late lead and finished second at the inaugural Island Resort Intercollegiate at the Sage Run Golf Club.

Purdue totaled a 54-hole tally of 8-under par 856 (280-285-291) to finish one shot behind Liberty (285-285-285=855). East Carolina and UCF tied for third at 5-under par 859.

Paired with Liberty and East Carolina in the final round, Purdue led by five shots entering the final three holes. The Boilermakers' counting team played the final three holes in 2-over par, while Liberty played the final trio of holes in 4-under par, making up the difference.

The runner-up finish, however, did not diminish a strong opening weekend for the young Boilermakers. Head coach Rob Bradley had three juniors and two freshmen in the counting five, and another, sophomore Andrew Farraye playing as an individual, all finish in the top 32.

Freshman Nick Dentino capped off a great opening weekend with a runner-up finish at 6-under par 210 (70-70-70), sharing those honors with junior Joe Weiler (68-70-72=210). The duo avoided the big scores with no double bogeys or worse during their 54 holes while combining for 25 birdies and an eagle during the event.

Freshman Peyton Snoeberger also capped off a strong week with a T-18th finish on rounds of 71-70-78 for a total of 3-over par 219. Snoeberger struggled out of the gates in the third round, but got to 1-over par through nine holes. He then played his next five holes in 5-over par to fall out of the top 10.

Junior Cole Bradley finished T-30th at 6-over par 222 (73-75-74), while classmate Jason Hong was T-32nd at 7-over par 223 (71-77-75).

Playing as an individual, Farraye finished T-15th at 2-over par 218 (72-72-74).

Purdue will compete next weekend at the Gopher Invitational in Independence, Minnesota.
