INDEPENDENCE, Minn.  Joe Weiler recorded his second straight top-five finish to lead the Purdue men's golf team to a seventh-place showing at the loaded Gopher Invitational.

The Boilermakers recorded a 54-hole total of 16-over par 868 (290-281-297) to finish just one shot out of sixth behind Marquette. The teams were greeted with brutal scoring conditions Monday as rain, wind and temps in the upper 50s dominated play. Just one team shot under par (Oklahoma; -1) while only five players broke even par in their round.

Baylor won the event at 4-under par 848, followed by Texas A&M (-2; 850), Arkansas (+2; 854), Oklahoma (+2; 854) and West Virginia (+6; 858).

Weiler, a junior from Bloomington, Indiana, continued his strong early-season play with a T-3rd finish at 3-under par 210 (71-68-71). He was one of two players in the field to shoot even-par or better in all three rounds and has now been at even or under par in six straight rounds, the fifth-longest streak in Purdue history.

Prior to this year, his highest career finish was tied for 25th, but has already posted a tied for second and and tied for third-place showing this year.

Freshman Nick Dentino wrapped up his second top-20 finish in as many career events, with a T-18 finish at 2-over par 215 (71-68-76).

Jason Hong (75-71-76) and Cole Bradley (73-75-74) finished tied for 44th at 9-over par 213, while Peyton Snoeberger placed tied for 62nd at 14-over par 227 (75-74-78).

The Boilermakers will be at the Windon Memorial next Monday and Tuesday at Conway Farms in Lake Forest, Illinois.
