PULLMAN, Wash. The Purdue men's golf team's quest for one of 30 spots in the NCAA National Championships ended Wednesday under cloudy skies at Palouse Ridge Golf Club on the campus of Washington State University.

The Boilermakers finished the 54-hole regional in a ninth-place tie with Florida and Kent State at 8-under par 832, recording rounds of 275-281-276. The 832 is the second-lowest aggregate score in school history.

Purdue was looking for its first NCAA National Championships appearance since 2017, but dug too deep of a hole in round two to make a serious threat in today's final round.

"This obviously wasn't the outcome we were looking for, but I am really proud of this team. We had our backs against the wall and we nearly won a Big Ten championship and played our way into NCAA Regionals," head coach Rob Bradley said.

The finish ends the career of standouts Timmy Hildebrand and Jarle Volden. The duo rank second and 12th respectively in career stroke average at Purdue. They were part of four teams that made regionals and two squads that advanced to the national championships (2016, 2017).

"Words can't really describe how much I'm going to miss having Timmy and Jarle around," Bradley added. "They have given so much to Purdue golf and have helped me become a better coach. I am so impressed with the men that they have become and I know they are going to be successful in whatever they do."

Hildebrand ended his career in strong fashion, finishing T-17th at 6-under par 204, the fourth-best, 54-hole score in school history. His year included 11 rounds in the 60s, tied for the most in school history and he ended with a season stroke average of 71.26, the second-best average in school history, posting a cumulative score of 5-under par this year.

Cole Bradley finished T-24th at 4-under par 206 after rounds of 68-70-67. He posted 18 rounds of even-par or better this year, good for fifth all-time in a season at Purdue.

Volden closed out his career in strong fashion, posting a final-round 66 to finish T-29th at 3-under par 207 (70-71-66). Volden finished the year with a 72.41 stroke average, the fourth-best average in Purdue history.

Andrew Farraye rounded out Purdue's final-round counting team with a 3-over par 73, while Jason Hong tallied a 78.

Head coach Rob Bradley will lose Hildebrand and Volden off this year's squad, but returns a solid nucleus of juniors Cole Bradley, Joe Weiler and Jason Hong and sophomores Andrew Lewis and Andrew Farraye. Incoming freshmen Nick Dentino and Peyton Snoeberger will also strengthen Purdue's lineup in 2019-20.

"Our younger guys will use this season to help them improve and will need to come back better next year if we want to take the next step," Bradley said. "We have a lot of work to do, but I am looking forward to next season already."
