WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's tennis came out on top over intrastate rival Indiana 5-2 on Saturday at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
The Boilermakers came out strong, winning the doubles point over the Hoosiers.
Zala Dovnik and Alex Sabe defeated Somer Henry and Michelle McKamey 7-5. No. 44 Amina Mukhametshina and Silvia Ambrosio took down Madison Appel and Jelly Bozovic 7-5 to secure the doubles point.
In singles play, the Hoosiers weren't going to go down easy, as four out of the six singles matches went into three sets.
The first Boilermaker point came at the No. 1 position, where Ambrosio defeated Appel 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
After falling in the first set 3-6, Mukhametshina fought back to defeat Bozovic 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
At the No. 3 spot, Seira Shimizu fought in true Boilermaker fashion, pushing to the very end, taking down Caitlin Bernard 3-6, 6-5, 6-4.
The final Purdue point came at the No. 5 spot, where Sabe claimed victory over McKamey 7-6, 7-6.
With the win, Purdue took a 7.5-6.5 lead in the Governor's Cup competition.
The Boilermakers (7-11, 2-5) will be back in action Friday at 4 p.m. ET in Columbus, Ohio, to take on Ohio State.
