LINCOLN, Neb. - The Purdue women's tennis team opened Big Ten Tournament play Thursday with a 4-2 victory over Michigan State.

The ninth-seeded Boilermakers came out fighting, taking the doubles point from the eighth-seeded Spartans. No. 53 Silvia Ambrosio and Amina Mukhametshina defeated Maja Pietrowicz and Emily Metcalf handily in a 6-2 victory at the No. 1 spot. Zala Dovnik and Alex Sabe rose to the challenge defeating Lauren Lemonds and Davina Nguyen in the tie breaker 7-6(1).

With the score 1-0 in favor of Purdue, Michigan State came out swinging, securing two singles victories at the No. 3 and 5 spots. However, those would be the only victories of the match as the Boilermakers took the next three.

Zala Dovnik started the Boilermaker charge with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Metcalf at No. 4.

Ena Babic won at the No. 2 position over Lemonds 7-5, 6-2.

No. 33 Ambrosio won her match in two sets over Samantha Memije 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot to secure the Boilermaker victory.
