UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Purdue women's tennis edged Penn State in a 4-3 victory at the Sarni Tennis Center on Sunday. The Boilermakers proved, yet again, they know how to fight, earning their the fifth victory of the season that came down to the last court.
It came down to Alex Sabe at No. 5 singles, and she came from behind to defeat Frederikke Svarre 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Sabe and Zala Dovnik won their doubles match over Chelsea Sawyer and Svarre 6-4, but despite their victory the doubles point went to Penn State.
Finishing singles first was No. 30 Silvia Ambrosio at the No. 1 position with her 6-1, 6-2 victory over Gabby O'Gorman. Ambrosio's victory tied the score 1-1.
The Nittany Lions took the next two points to bring the score to 3-1.
The Boilermakers fought back, taking the next three wins to secure the victory.
At the No. 2 spot, Ena Babic defeated Olivia Rohrbacher 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Dovnik added another point to tie up the score 3-3 with her victory at the No. 6 spot over Olivia Ryan 7-5, 6-2.
Purdue (8-12, 3-6) will wrap up the season at home with two matches this weekend. The first match will be Saturday at noon ET against Maryland. On Sunday at noon, the Boilermakers will host Rutgers for Senior Day honoring Ambrosio and Amina Mukhametshina.
